For more than 30 years, the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club has offered service defined by courtesy, care and compassion. Now more than ever, we are committed to further extending this level of hospitality to each guest, ensuring a safe experience and peace of mind.

To that end, we have partnered with Dr. Carol McLay of Duke University Hospitals & Clinics, Department of Infection Prevention & Hospital Epidemiology, to develop service protocols, training and best practices in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We have deployed extensive safety and security measures throughout the property ranging from utilizing Centers for Disease Control (CDC) cleaning and disinfection protocols, social distancing, use of personal protective equipment (PPE) for all employees, and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved virus-killing cleaners and disinfectants. We are asking all of our guests to wear face masks in all public areas of the hotel, unless actively eating or drinking.

Guest Services

Along with increasing disinfection procedures throughout the Inn, we have also amended some services for your safety.

  • Touchless hand sanitizing stations have been installed throughout the property for guest use.
  • Fitness Center will be cleaned and sanitized frequently, especially during high use periods. Disinfectant wipes will be provided for guests to sanitize equipment before and after use.
  • Minibar snacks and beverages have been removed from guestrooms and are available upon request.

Employee Protocols

Our staff will follow specific daily procedures to maintain a healthy environment for all guests and employees.

  • All staff are required to use proper hand hygiene at the beginning of each shift, and on a routine basis. Hand sanitizing stations are available throughout the property.
  • In accordance with state and local regulations, employees will wear the appropriate PPE at all times during work shifts. Any employee who feels unwell will not report to work.
  • All employees will receive training on COVID-19 safety protocols and best practices for sanitation and cleanliness. Staff members with frequent guest contact will be given additional comprehensive training.
  • All team members have been given clear instructions on how to respond to and report presumed cases of COVID-19. Employees who notice peers or guests exhibiting symptoms, are to notify management immediately for further action.

Cleaning and Disinfecting

Based on recent trends and guidance, we are continuing to practice exceptionally effective health and safety initiatives while easing back into our standard services. Our housekeeping services still include some modifications, but rest assured that we have taken special care in cleaning and sanitizing guestrooms and public areas. We have enhanced and increased the frequency of our already rigorous cleaning procedures in all guest rooms and public areas throughout the hotel, utilizing fast acting, effective cleaning products. All cleaning agents meet CDC and EPA guidelines and standards for the elimination of viruses, including SARS-CoV-2 which causes COVID-19, and bacteria, as well as other airborne and blood borne pathogens.

  • To eliminate potential cross contamination between guests and staff, common surfaces and high touch areas will be regularly sanitized.
  • Once a guest has checked into their room, our staff will not enter the room for the duration of the guest’s visit, including daily housekeeping services.
  • Currently, we are limiting guest room housekeeping to requests only for service. If you are staying four days or more, we will provide complete service on the third morning.
  • Fresh towels and bath amenities will be delivered anytime to a guest’s door upon request - Dial 0 from your room phone or (919)490-0999 from outside your room.
  • Nightly turndown service is currently suspended.
  • Each room will undergo deep cleaning after guest check-out, with emphasis on frequently used items.
  • All linens and bath terry will be laundered following guest departure.
  • In the event of presumptive case of COVID-19, the guest’s room will be removed from service and quarantined. The guest room will not be returned to service until the case has been confirmed or cleared. In the event of a positive case, the room will only be returned to service upon undergoing an enhanced sanitization protocol.

Restaurants and Bars

  • All surfaces including tables, chairs and other surfaces will be sanitized after each guest contact.
  • Host stand, service stations, beverage stations, countertops and all associated equipment will be sanitized regularly.
  • All restaurant staff to wear the appropriate PPE at all times.
